“I see creativity as a form of translation...a way to turn what we feel, remember, and hope for into something we can touch or see. My work lives in that space between expression and understanding. I create to honor evolution, the quiet becoming and the beautiful joyous disruptions that happen when we finally see ourselves clearly...”

Who?
Bessie Akuba is a Ghanaian-born, east side of Atlanta-raised award winning artist, photographer, and creative strategist whose work sits at the intersection of storytelling, culture, and identity. Through her lens, she captures the quiet radiance and layered narratives of those who are blooming in their own time. Her photography goes beyond portraiture—it’s visual storytelling that celebrates self-discovery, sensuality, and the art of becoming.
As the founder of Bessie Akuba Creative, she also helps multi-passionate creatives blend their intersecting talents and curiosities into what she calls a Creative Overlap—a space where purpose, artistry, and entrepreneurship meet. Her work often explores themes of reinvention, belonging, and creative alignment, guiding others to weave their passions into a cohesive and fulfilling life.
Bessie’s projects, including Our Kind of Women and The Power of Many Journal, reflect her belief that creativity is not one-dimensional—it’s a living, breathing ecosystem that thrives when we embrace all of who we are. She is a thought leader and consultant to artists and creatives who seek to tell more authentic stories, design more intentional work, and lead more creative lives.
When she’s not leading creative conversations, consulting other artists, or producing visual projects that merge art and soul, Bessie provides strategic business management to Fortune 500 companies and enjoys time with her children in an Atlanta suburb.
